Castle of Mey

Purchased by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother in 1952, the Castle of Mey is set in thirty acres of parkland in the North East of Scotland. The Queen Mother adored her home in the Highlands of Scotland and used it every year until her death in 2002.

Since 2003, the trustees have opened the castle and grounds to the public every summer recently opening a visitor centre and animal park within the castle grounds.

Havelock have a strong track record of delivering high quality retail projects to the Royal Household, successes such as the Royal Farm Shop at Windsor have been instrumental in Havelock being awarded the Royal Warrant for Shopfitting. A unique achievement in the fit-out industry.

Havelock were appointed by The Castle of Mey to provide a complete service; designing, manufacturing and installing every aspect of the retail and new visitor centre. Havelock’s Design Director John Gillespie and his team had overall responsibility for designing the visitor centre. The layout of the shop and tearoom benefited considerably from his expertise and also from the unrivalled high quality of workmanship provided by the Dalgety Bay joinery team. The incorporation of natural materials sourced locally such as slate flooring and extensive use of soft and hardwoods help tie in the new centre to the historic castle.
